San Juan National Historic Site
Forts San Felipe Del Morro and San Cristóbal
One of our ongoing projects, is the conservation of numerous iron and bronze objects for the National Park Service. The objects include cannons and cannon balls from the Spanish as well as the American colonial time period. The tropical climate conditions cause corrosion on all objects, leading to immense degradation of materials. Treatment of the corrosion is absolutely necessary to preserve an important part of our history. An agreement was reached with the University of Puerto Rico to carry a collaborative research project for the study of the corrosion process and products at this location and produce a maintenance plan that help preserve this collection for future generations.

Institute of Puerto Rican Culture
Stone is another material the team has come across while treating and preserving national heritage sites. In this case, the petroglyphs of the Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Park. Due to the rough climate and unprotected surfaces of the stones, accumulations of dirt, algae and lichen have made the petroglyphs almost unreadable. The treatment consisted mainly of a delicate and selective noninvasive cleaning of the surfaces, with special cleaning techniques and materials, which made the carvings visible again.

Recently, the Order of Santo Domingo in Puerto Rico celebrated its 500 years of presence and relationship with our culture. A significant example of this relationship is the artwork of Fryer Arnaldo Marcolino Maas. Our studio performed the preservation and conservation treatments necessary for the presentation of the artwork. Also, we collaborated with the curating and installation of the exhibition "Tradition and Controversy" which presented a collection of important art pieces done by Marcolino Maas.
